Your Questions, Answered

  • Since our flowers are cut and conditioned straight from the field, they will usually last longer than store bought flowers. Most of the specialty cut flowers we grow can have a vase-life of 5-14 days.  Some of the especially unique flowers are known more for their beauty, like dahlias, than their longevity.

  • Your bouquet will include a flower food packet when you make your purchase.  Follow the directions on the packet to mix it up and make sure to add it to your vase when arranging your flowers.  The very best advice with keeping your flowers fresh is to make sure they have clean fresh water daily and a fresh cut the stem every 2-3 days.

  • Some flowers are what we call “dirty flowers”, like zinnias and sunflowers.  They have “hairs” on the stems that collect dirt and bacteria that can actually make the water dirty and shorten the lifespan of the flower.  The best way to avoid this is to rinse those flowers before you put them in the vase with fresh water and make sure they have a fresh cut on the stem.

Some flowers tend to wilt if they have not been conditioned correctly or if they have been picked at the wrong time.

  • A field grown flower, not including carnations or roses, that is grown for the express purpose of being used in bouquets/arrangements.  Specialty cut flowers usually have longer stems and sometimes are pollen-less.

  • Flowers grown locally with the seasons are fresher, usually have a longer vase-life because they have not been stored or shipped, and often are unique and different than box-store. Plus you are supporting small business in your community!
